Kaan Toker, businessman and President of the Bodrum Branch of the Turkish Green Crescent (Yeşilay), accomplished an extraordinary feat by walking 102 kilometers in 24 hours to raise awareness for the opening of a YEDAM (Green Crescent Counseling Center) branch in Bodrum.
In honor of the 102nd anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, Toker set his target at 102 kilometers and completed the walk with only 1.5 hours of rest.
The Importance of YEDAM
Speaking to Sokak TV before the walk, Toker emphasized the vital role of YEDAM in society:
“YEDAM provides free psychological and social support to individuals struggling with tobacco, alcohol, substance, internet, and gambling addictions.
It also supports families and loved ones to help restore disrupted life routines and rebuild healthy relationships.”
“Why Bodrum Needs a YEDAM Center”
Highlighting Bodrum as one of Turkey’s most popular tourist destinations, Toker explained:
“We live in a region that attracts millions of tourists each year, and unfortunately, many bring their harmful habits with them.
From drugs to alcohol, our community—especially our children and youth—is exposed to serious risks.
That’s why I believe YEDAM must be established in Bodrum, and I’m walking to raise awareness for that cause.”
A Call for Support
Toker stated that a 260 m² facility is needed for the new YEDAM center and called on the local community for help:
“I invite Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras, Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci, as well as the Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Maritime Trade, tradesmen associations, driver unions, NGOs, parents, and philanthropists to support this project.”
Donations and Future Goals
An encouraging first donation came from a Turkish businessman living in Switzerland, who pledged 5,000 Swiss Francs for the YEDAM Bodrum branch.
Toker also aims to establish a strong Green Crescent management team in Bodrum, supported by dedicated volunteers.
“We can build thrones for our children, but not their destinies.
YEDAM must exist and thrive in Bodrum.”
